The second Orwell Park 10k race and fun run will be held on Saturday 18th March 2017 at 2.00pm. The 10km route is run over a multi-terrain surface through Nacton Village, the Orwell Park Estate and Orwell Park School. It consists of 2 laps. This race is open to runners aged 15 and over.
This year there will be two distances in the fun run to accommodate all ages and abilities. The 1.5km and 3km route are run entirely on the school grounds. The 1.5km route consists of 1 lap of the 3km route. All pupils in Years 4 to 8 will run in the 3k fun run. Fancy dress is an option for all fun run participants. Children aged 8 and under are welcome to run in either the 1.5k or 3k run but must be accompanied by an adult. Adults are also welcome to run in this event.
The races will raise money for Orwell Park’s three chosen charities for this year which are:
Entries
Entries to both races are now open and anyone wishing to participate should use the on-line entry form here...
The deadline for all race entries is at midnight on Wednesday 8th March. There will be no entries available after this date or on the day. The 10k race is limited to 100 entries. Race numbers can be collected prior to the start from the registration desk. Refunds cannot be issued in the eventuality that a registered runner is unable to compete.
Race Numbers
Chip Timing UK will be providing numbers for all runners. Your race number can be collected on the day from the desk, which will be clearly marked. These will be available from 12.30pm onwards.
Race Day Car Parking
Parking is available at Orwell Park School. Participants are asked to arrive no earlier than 12.30pm and no later than 1.30pm. Any cars arriving after this time will be asked to park in the overflow car park in Nacton village which is a five minute walk from the school. Please do not park on nearby residential streets in such a way that will either inconvenience local residents or block the running route.
The planned finish time for this event is 3.30pm at which point cars will be allowed to leave safely.
Facilities
There will be no access to the internal building on the day. Toilets will be available near the start of the races. Tents will be provided for changing but there will be no secure storage facilities.
Start Details
The start line for all races is at the front of Orwell Park School.
The 10km course (shown in yellow on the Route Map) consists of 2 x 5km laps. From the Orwell Park School gates, there is a short 200m ascent into the village as you make your way to Camilla Court. This part of the race is entirely on the road. The next stage of the race is through the Orwell Park Estate, which is mainly a dirt track and grass. There is one more short piece of road (on the Ipswich Road) before you make your way towards Orwell Park School. There are no road closures for this race. Marshalls will be placed around the course to direct runners and to ensure their safety. They will not be able to stop vehicles passing and therefore runners are advised to take care and be alert to motorists, running on the left side of the road where applicable.
Please note that headphones should not be worn throughout the race.
The 1.5km and 3km course (shown in blue on the Route Map) starts in the same position as the 10k race but heads onto the school grounds behind the school. The route is the same for both, with the 3km course consisting of 2 x 1.5km laps.
